Keynote “Contextual Schema Therapy – What does it add to the therapy table?”

Schema therapy has some strengths: (1) It provides clients with a biographically based internal working model helping to understand current behaviour based on early achieved schemas, (2) the limited reparenting therapy relationship creates a strong bond with the clients leading to low dropout rates and (3) the experiential techniques allow deep emotional processing in a safe and goal-directed way. The purpose is to better conceptualize personality disorders and improve emotional dysregulation and interpersonal functioning. The lecture outlines a seamless integration of a meta-cognitive perspective into the emotion focussed schema therapy model making it a true contextual therapy embedded into the broad stream of evolving cognitive behaviour therapies.
